Well, hotting up in the travel meta search arena suddenly as news (via GigaOm) comes out that Kayak have merged with Sidestep. Really surprised by this to be honest, I had assumed that they would both be doing really well by now given the user experience they offer. They both have great technology and big audiences, alone they weren't yet profitable but together they are going to become a force to be reckoned with in online travel.
It will be interesting to see if they stay as two separate web properties or merge into one. Benefits in both routes really as two properties can acquire more traffic through SEO and advertising, where as one can capitalise on the merge of two well known names.
The combined entity will be the 5th biggest online travel operator so this will make waves in the market!
