Who would have thought that an open source software solution would suddenly get snapped up for $1B? Not me. I know MySQL is popular but I had no idea it would be valued quite so highly. The take from MySQL is here; which is much more interesting than Suns take here.

Shrewd move from Sun though.They've been providing their own open source solutions for some time although mostly to do with Open Office and Java. Now getting their hands on a piece of software that is used by most of the worlds start-ups puts Sun in a great position to start talking to the kind of customers they really want again!
